I hope you had a great Christmas and a strong start to the new year.
Here in New Zealand, the end of the year usually slows down. Summer. Fewer emails. A little more space to think.
At least when it’s not raining.
That pause matters.
Because it creates room to ask better questions.
I’m still thinking about what I want The Moonshots to become. That’s a work in progress.
But the quiet of the holidays gave me clarity on something else first.
What I want out of 2026, personally.
Which naturally led me back to goal setting.
If you’ve been reading The Moonshots for a while, you’ll know I’m not a fan of traditional goals.
Write it down. Set a deadline. Hope motivation shows up.
It rarely does.
Goals fail because they’re disconnected from identity.
They’re things you want, not someone you’re becoming.
So this year, I’m doing it differently.
Instead of asking, What do I want to achieve?
I asked, Who would I need to become for this life to be inevitable?
If the ideal version of me lives a certain way, then the current version of me needs to act like him today.
Not perfectly.
But consistently.
Here’s what that ideal version looks like—and how I’m closing the gap.
I want to be someone who lives an active lifestyle.
So I’ll move my body at least five times a week.
I want to be someone who eats well and respects their energy.
So I’ll track what I eat and prioritise whole foods.
I want to be someone who can control their attention and nervous system.
So I’ll meditate for ten minutes every morning.
I want to be someone who compounds knowledge.
So I’ll read for fifteen minutes before bed.
I want to be someone who has financial freedom.
So I’ll invest a set amount every month, consistently.
I want to be someone who runs a successful media business.
So I’ll post content regularly and publish a newsletter every week.
None of these are goals.
They’re behaviors.
And behaviors are easier to keep promises to than outcomes.
So how do I make sure I actually follow through?
Two things.
First, a simple habit tracker called Habits.
No complexity. No optimisation. Just a daily yes or no.
Second, accountability.
I’ve told a close friend exactly what I said I’d do—and asked him to hold me to it.
That’s it.
No grand systems.
No perfect routines.
And look, I won’t hit everything every single day. That’s part of being human.
But if I’m aligned most of the time, I’m moving toward the person I’m trying to become.
That’s the real goal.
I’d love to hear what you’re working toward this year.
Not the outcome—but the person you’re building.
And if you need help thinking it through, just reply.
Thanks for reading and always remember:
Think deeply. Act intentionally.
Zoheb, Founder of The Moonshots.
